CRKT Edgie

Recently, I mentioned my disappointment with the CRKT Edgie. The knife is a great concept- has a sharpener in the blade and is a nice, usable size, with a quality slip joint.

However, the blade on my Edgie was not holding up well, despite it seeing only light usage.

I contacted CRKT and explained my dissatisfaction- they asked me to send it in to see what they could do.

Mailing in the knife didn't bother me much- the postage was right around $2.50. I wasn't sure what to expect from CRKT, though my previous interactions with their warranty department have been positive, I wasn't sure just how many times I could have good interactions with the company.
To their credit, they promptly sent me a brand new knife, free of charge.

I haven't had this knife long, but I am interested to see how it will hold up.

The whole process has me very conflicted about CRKT. On the one hand, their prices are what I would consider fair, and their customer service is quite excellent- However, it seems near every product of theirs I own I need to consult with their CS department at some point.

Anyway, I'm going to give them a tentative thumbs up- Any issue I had they always made right, I just wish I didn't have 2 issues in a row.

The knife is light, carries well, and comes with a great factory edge. The sharpener in the handle does seem to work and keep the knife in good, usable condition.

The slip joint does not seem flimsy, nor do I worry that it will close on me during use. Though I will say CRKT does clearly state this knife is not meant for heavy duty tasks. The grip panels are comfortable and the knife has a good heft in the hand.

The blade is honed only on one side, which does seem to give it a great edge. This is seen most often on eastern style blades, and I am glad to see it become more common in the states.

The knife lacks any kind of sharp point- which I am glad for. Pushing on the tip of a slip joint is a great way to end up with your friends opening your bottles for you.

I guess time will tell how this second Edgie holds up. I would give it a buy- but only if the price were exceptionally good- say in the 20 dollar or less range.

I have been using one at workfor a while now, opening boxes, packages, cutting tape, etc. and it is still holding up well. I like it for it's intended purposes.

I've had four of their M21s, and they've been great. My old man took my first one; BWI popo took my second; I gave a friend my third because he lost the one I gave him for Christmas (his favorite knife by far), and the last one is sitting in my safe right now. Everyone that uses them falls in love with them, and they're pretty high in the quality dept. for being at the price point that they are. I think maybe you've just had a run of bad luck!

I tend to agree CTone, but man when it rains it pours!
